When I was in college, I needed a job. I wanted to work at my university or near my university. After looking at different options, I found a job in an office. I called high school students. I worked in the office two nights a week. I called students who were in high school. I tried to help the students choose to go to my university. I asked them if they had any questions. I gave answers to their questions. Each night at work, I called many students, but most did not answer the phone.
A Game at Work
I worked with several other university students. Sometimes, we felt bored. No one would answer our phone calls. When we were bored, we began to play games. One game was The Name Game. When someone answered the phone, we said we had a different name each time. We started with a name that began with A, such as Amy. “Hello. This is Amy.” On the next call, we gave a different name that started with B, such as Betty. “Hello. This is Betty.” Each time someone answered the phone, we said we had a different name. We tried to use names that went from A-Z. Sometimes, we forgot what name we said.
At other times, we talked to very kind students. They asked many questions and seemed to be glad to have someone to talk to. They didn’t know if they wanted to go to my university. They might want to go to a different one. I talked about many different things with them. We spoke about life at the university. We talked about different classes and majors. I offered them advice when possible. In the end, I wanted to help them make a good choice. It was a good job for a university student.
